Quick note: free plans change often. Always check each tool’s current limits before you build your workflow around it.
You do not need a paid subscription to get real work done with AI. These five tools all have a free plan, and each one is best at a different job.
1. ChatGPT for drafting and brainstorming
Use it to turn rough notes into a first draft, outline a blog post, or brainstorm names and ideas. Give it context about your audience and the tone you want.
2. Claude for long documents
Paste a long article, report or contract and ask for a summary, a list of action items or the key risks. It is good at keeping the structure of long text.
3. Perplexity for research with sources
When you need an answer you can check, ask Perplexity. It shows the web sources it used, so you can open them and verify.
4. Canva Magic tools for quick graphics
Resize designs, remove backgrounds and generate simple images for social posts without opening a full design app.
5. Gemini inside Google apps
If you already live in Gmail and Google Docs, Gemini can help draft replies and documents where you are already working.
How to pick one
- Writing and ideas: start with ChatGPT or Claude.
- Research you need to verify: use Perplexity.
- Visuals for social media: use Canva.
